Catholic Church Sex Crimes Are Global 35

Catholic Church Sex Crimes Are Global.

In Kerala, India, Catholic priest Father Robin Mathew Vaddakumchiryil, age 48, the vicar of Saint Sebastian Church in Kottiyoor, was accused of raping a 15 year old girl who was impregnated.

After initially refusing to name the father of the child, the victim said that the priest raped her in a computer schoolroom.

The infant was delivered at a private hospital run by the church and put up for adoption, reportedly against the mother’s consent.

The priest fled, but was arrested.

Not even the hospital reported the crime. Child welfare officials and police were informed by a child welfare group.

Incredibly, the victim was blamed for her own rape by Sunday Shalom, a weekly magazine associated with a Catholic Sabha, an association, and Father Paul Thelekat from the Bishop’s Council blamed “consumerism.”

Father Thelekat was quoted:

“Consumerism is indeed a situation affecting everyone in the world and priests are also in the world. It is in celibacy and in virginity the crisis become apparent first, then it will become a crisis of fidelity in marriage with extramarital and premarital sex.”
“Women are presented as commodity both in media and in advertisements and all commodities are marketed with girls and women, where the human body is dehumanized.”

A further 8 people are implicated in the case, with 5 nuns, a doctor and a medical assistant collaborating to deliver the child.

Earlier in February, 2017, Shalom TV posted a video on Facebook where a priest states that “women who wear jeans and t-shirts … and arouse men by wearing half-nude attire, should be drowned in the sea.”

“I saw a case where a girl was impregnated by her own brother and that the brother told him he couldn’t control himself after seeing his sister wearing shorts and a t-shirt.”
“Will girls who provoke their own father and brother by wearing such attire be welcomed by God when they come to the church?”

One article notes that, “Sexual violence against girls and women is endemic in India and the shame associated with such incidents makes victims and families hide the crime.”

Such victim shaming was also seen in the 2015 case of Italian priest Don Gino Flaim, 75, who claimed on television that children are culpable for their own molestation for “seeking affection.”

From the Northern Italian diocese of Trento, Father Flaim was removed from his position after stating on television, “Unfortunately there are children who seek affection because they don’t get it at home and then if they find some priest he can even give in [to the temptation]. I understand this.”

Father Flaim sealed his statement saying that while he could understand pedophilia, he could not understand the “sickness” of homosexuality.

In 2016, a defrocked priest imprisoned for a minimum of 18 years after conviction on charges of committing 62 child sex offenses in the 1980’s, accused the “boys” in his diocese of “making up lies and telling lies about him.”

Saying that the boys in his parish were “out to get him,” Mr. John Joseph Ferrell, 62, from Moree, New South Wales, Australia, made the allegations in a 1992 interview with the former Vicar General of Sydney, Father John Usher, national director of Catholic Mission, Father Brian Lucas, and Father Wayne Peters.

During his trial, one of his victims alleged that Farrell operated with “the protection of… the Australian Catholic Church.”

It was said that Father Farrell “made detailed confessions to abusing five boys in the early 1980’s.” At the time, senior priests held meetings with Father Farrell to persuade him to resign from the Church.

"I don't know what you are on about, these kids came looking for it, they enjoyed it."

“Father Farrell had been reluctant to accept a plan to get him out of the church and was concerned about money, as the clergy was his only source of income.”

The Australian Royal Commission was informed that Father Farrell was not officially defrocked until 2005.
